Before starting this tutorial, read:
Pin places objects by anchoring them to a surface point and letting you shape their rotation and scale with a single drag gesture. Click to pin, drag to rotate and scale, release to confirm.

Step 1 — Open the MegaWorld Window and select Pin

Press Alt + Z to open the MegaWorld Window. In the Tools Panel, click the + button and choose Pin from the Happy Artist group.

Step 2 — Set up your Group and prototypes

In the Selection Panel, create or select a Group and add the prototypes you want to place. Pin picks a random prototype from the selected ones each time you click.

Step 3 — Click to pin an object

Click on a surface in the Scene View. MegaWorld places a preview object at the hit point. The object starts at scale (0, 0, 0) and is ready for you to shape it.

Step 4 — Drag to rotate and scale

While holding the mouse button:
  • Move the mouse in a circle around the click point to rotate the object.
  • Drag the mouse away from the click point to scale the object up.
  • Drag toward the click point to scale it back down.
The further from the click point you drag, the larger the object becomes.

Step 5 — Release to confirm

Release the mouse button to commit the placement. If you release without dragging (cursor stayed within 5 pixels of the click point), the object is discarded.

Step 6 — Adjust Transform Mode

Open Pin Tool Settings in the inspector to control how rotation and scale respond to the drag:
  • Set Rotation → Transform Mode to Snap and adjust Rotation Angle to snap rotation to fixed degree increments (for example, every 30 degrees).
  • Set Scale → Transform Mode to Snap and adjust Snap Scale Value to snap the scale to fixed increments.
  • Set either mode to Fixed to lock rotation or scale to a specific value regardless of drag.

What’s next

  • Use Precise Place when you need one-by-one placement with a live preview and explicit transform controls.
  • Use Edit to fine-tune a placed object’s transform after placement.
  • Read the full Pin reference documentation.
